dhillon believes several million dollars will be raised from the san francisco event by business leaders who are dissatisfied with president biden. the crisis in this country in terms of the inflation, the open border, the violence. >> in 2020, trump got nearly 13% of the votes in san francisco. experts believe he doesn't view that as a barrier. >> there's this image of california as a blue state, but there are actually more republicans in california than in any other state in the country. just given the size of the state. >> exactly a week ago, trump was convicted of 34 charges by a new york city jury in the hush money trial. >> the recent verdicts in new york have only sort of fueled that fire. those who oppose him are likely to be even more opposed. him and those who support him are even more strongly in his corner. >> from supporters who can't pay to be at the fundraiser are supporting him from outside. >> so i love him. i am passionate about his agenda

tell you i've seen police officers, dozens of them, lined the streets around here and across the street there were a handful of demonstrators. without a doubt, trump's visit to this area is bringing a lot of security, a lot of attention, and a lot of protesters getting ready. it's a lot of heavy lifting and a lot of arranging. former president donald trump is set to arrive soon for his big fundraiser tonight in san francisco's pacific heights neighborhood. the barricades are out. no parking signs are up. tech billionaire david sacks and his wife are hosting the fundraising event for trump, with venture capitalists chamath palihapitiya, neighbor armand domalewski isn't happy about that. >> i live in this neighborhood and i am really pro-choice. i really don't like donald trump, and i know that the people in my community don't support those values. he's a convicted felon, who again, like, has taken away really vital rights like reproductive rights, gay rights, immigrant rights. >> the fundraiser at the posh

park heights mansion is expected to bring in big bucks from donors. some of them are bay area based venture capitalists. tickets are reportedly as much as $300,000 a person, half $1 million for couples. vip tickets go for $50,000 each. we do not know if tesla ceo elon musk is going to be attending this event, but sachs and musk are close friends. this fundraiser in san francisco comes a week after trump was found guilty of 34 counts in the hush money case. as for david sachs, he's a venture capitalist, a two time start up ceo, podcast host and former tech ceo. park heights resident domalewski plans on turning out with dozens of protesters to send a message. >> i'm happy to welcome him. we will give him a very big and excited welcoming tonight. 630 we're going to be protesting somebody bringing a giant chicken, like we're going to tell donald trump exactly what we think of him. all right. >> and this afternoon, a closer look at one of the demonstrators

here. so much activity in this area, people directing traffic. a lot of vehicles coming and going. we can tell you that a person with the republican national committee believes that this particular fundraiser could raise as much as $10 million for former president trump. we're live in the park heights neighborhood of san francisco, suzanne phan. abc seven news. >> all right, suzanne, thank you for that. all right. >> abc seven news insider phil matier is with us now. phil he said he's raising money hand over fist. why come to california? he doesn't need the money. is he going to get much more support? the support won't make a difference, really, in terms of electoral votes, electoral college down the road. what what's to gain here? >> well, let's let's start with that little bit we're talking about is probably in the neighborhood of $20 million. okay. okay, a little bit. it's not a little bit. it's a lot. now the second thing is where is it coming from? it's coming out of san francisco and silicon valley tech. that is a statement that is a statement out there that he is relevant, that he is relevant after the convictions that he still rolling. and

there's two things a politician and especially donald trump wants to get every day. that's money and attention and publicity. and he's getting both of those things by coming to blue california and especially by coming into san francisco. >> does it even surprise? i mean, 34 felony counts and it's business as usual. >> well, like it or not, business in america is not usual anymore. what used to be something that would cause you a lot of problems 10 or 15 years ago don't. and it doesn't anymore. it's there's just been a change in the culture. and also it's sort of been inoculated over the last year or such. the various the trial in georgia, the documents in mar-a-lago and now this trial and the before with his business dealings, he has turned it into a crusade, saying that they're out to get him. so rather than it being a straight trial, people are saying, no, it's part of a conspiracy. and they are on the marina green tonight. now, everybody has opinions about donald trump, some of them

favorable, some of them unfavorable. but you cannot deny his popularity. okay i don't know of another politician right now who could get 200 people to line up in the marina for them to drive somewhere and do that. he's doing that, that they're doing that on their own. we have fundraisers, we have events. we pack them, the democrats pack them. but it's not the usual people. it's these people. we have billionaires up in pac heights that are opening up their checkbooks, and we have common people on marina green who are opening up their hearts to this guy. >> let's talk about the billionaires and the tech leaders and the venture capitalists. they put their money on the line. but a little bit of credibility in the bay area by so publicly supporting trump, are they just hedging their bets? what's going on? well, a couple of things. >> first of all, david sachs, who's hosting the event, he also has a podcast out there. and he's very public about it. and he said on his podcast he hasn't gotten any blowback, but he's put his name out there. he put his address out there. unlike

past events where they try to keep it quiet, he's put it right out there and no problem, no. and that's one of the reasons why the organizers of the donald trump chicken on the bay are out there, because they said, wait a minute, you're going to have a fundraiser in san francisco and we're not going to protest. we're not going to make a statement. let's at least poke fun at this. and so that's why they're out there trying to get the chicken inflated is because the question of no blowback. but also, dan, this is a new group of investors and political players. they give to democrats, they give to republicans, they give to trump. they give to moderates. they give to opponents. they give to robert kennedy. they've even offered to host a fundraiser for joe biden. >> so they're just covering all bases. >> they're covering all businesses. they're covering all bets. they have more money than they're ever going to need. and so they live in a different world. can they walk down the street and get dirty looks? maybe, but maybe not in their neighborhood, but they're sort of anesthetized to this. they live in a world of their own, and it's going to be interesting to see how they play going forward, because they're not just doing it with donald trump. these same investors are

>> for now, let's turn to a wildfire that firefighters are gaining ground on. it's been burning since yesterday afternoon near saint helena. cal fire says the crystal fire is now 75% contained and started near crystal springs road, and quickly burned 60 acres, but crews were able to stop its progress within a few hours. that is good news since it started near the site of the 2020 glass fire, which burned for 23 days. four firefighters who were injured yesterday are now out of the hospital fire crews were able to quickly put out a vegetation fire in pacheco this morning, started on a hillside near the 680 and highway four junction. firefighters were able to stop the flames from advancing into a row of solar panels on the hill. no buildings were damaged. firefighters do have that extra factor of the heat to contend with, although not as hot as yesterday. yeah that's true. >> the bay area is in day three of its first heat wave of the year. but the good news some places are seeing some relief today. >> yeah, we're taking a live look outside from san francisco to santa cruz on the beach. abc seven news meteorologist sandhya

patel tracking the temperatures where you live, sandhya. >> yeah, and ama and dan those temperatures trending lower, which is what we want to see, obviously. take a look. double digit drop in napa, 22 degrees cooler compared to yesterday. at this time, it's a downward trend. 15 degrees in oakland. when you look at the temperatures right now, you have to go well inland to see any low 90s in places like concord and brentwood. it is 60 degrees in the city. heat advisory continues until midnight tonight for all areas shaded in orange. solano county under that excessive heat warning until 8 p.m. tonight. still a good idea to take it easy, especially if you're in our inland areas where we're still dealing with the heat. now, here is what has brought us the cooling. you can certainly see that the fog is back. it is right along the coastline here. and as we head into tomorrow, we're going to notice that that fog spreads out, continue the downward trend in temperatures. i'll be back with a look at what you can expect for the weekend. coming up. dan. >> sandhya, thanks very much.

neighbors. police were called to dolores park for a reported shooting just after 10 p.m. and found a 19 year old man with multiple gunshot wounds. first responders performed cpr, but he died at the scene. supervisor rafael mandelman, whose district includes the park, describes the shooting as scary happening at a park that everyone loves. in his words, san francisco mayoral candidate daniel lurie says shootings shouldn't be happening in dolores park. he called a news conference this morning to react to what happened. >> my kids go to school here. our offices, our campaign offices are a couple of blocks away, listen, violence can happen anywhere, but typically,

we should not be worried about shootings in dolores park. >> lurie, who lives in another part of town, says the city streets are neither safe nor clean. he wants a fully staffed police department and officers walking the beat. merchants in some districts are closing up shop at sundown because they just don't feel safe. that's according to mayoral candidate lurie. >> tamara's national gun violence awareness day and state attorney general rob bonta says gun violence in the country would be much lower if other states did. what california is doing. >> our gun death rate is now 40% lower than the national average. >> as banda says, more than 40,000 americans die from gun violence every year. but he says a lot of that can be avoided with stricter gun laws. bonta presented a report on nine california protection restraining orders that have reduced gun violence at home, work and school and encouraged other states to adopt similar laws. >> a fundraising plan to bring panda bears from china to the san francisco zoo will go before the board of supervisors next

tuesday. this morning, the board's government audit and oversight committee voted unanimously to recommend an amended fundraising plan. they didn't like the first one. mayor london breed, had asked the board to allow several city departments to receive unlimited donations to cover the $25 million cost to host the two pandas from china, but concerns over possible corruption stalled that plan. the new resolution, approved today will require more transparency, including a public list of donors. >> all right, it's time to turn to our weather. i can feel the difference today. >> stepping outside i can do began to ease off a little bit. still nice and warm. but what is to come? meteorologist sandyha patel is here. sandy. yeah. >> dan. and we're going to continue with this cool down that we just experienced today. and yes, you can feel it in many areas. let me show you a live picture right now from our emeryville camera. as we look at 80, a little bit of emeryville, there, you'll notice that haze in the atmosphere, air quality is moderate across parts of the bay area. as you will notice in yellow those dots. so we haven't had a strong sea breeze. and

that's part of the issue here. right now it is 28 miles an hour onshore in san francisco. but the sea breeze will strengthen and that will mix out the atmosphere a bit. so tomorrow we're looking at good air quality for most areas. now here's what's setting the stage for some changes. this trough developing over the pacific is pushing the ridge eastward, and that's going to allow us to continue with the cool down. we are seeing some thunderstorms on the eastern side of california right now and heading into nevada right now on live doppler seven. we have that fog around that is going to be around as we head into tomorrow as well. now it's still warm inland or hot depending on where you are. in case you want to head to the coast, keep in mind that beach hazard statement is still up until midnight tonight. moderate northwest swell breakers 8 to 15ft. current wave heights are five to about ten feet. it's socked in on the golden gate bridge. the fog is back and it's reflected in our temperature is 60 degrees in the city, 64 in oakland, it is 78 in san jose

and 77 in redwood city. nothing but sunshine from our exploratorium camera. we do have a few 80s around santa rosa, fairfield right now, 90 degrees in concord and 87 in livermore from our santa cruz camera. sure looks like people are enjoying the coast overnight tonight. coastal fog expands tomorrow. cooling trend continues. for those areas that didn't drop off much, we'll see a bigger drop tomorrow and for the weekend. nice late spring weather is headed our way so we don't have to worry about any extremes. then tonight at 515 you have the 80s and 90s inland along the coast. it's sweater weather though. as we head into 7:00 you will notice it's still warm away from the beaches and then finally those temperatures dropping into the 60s and 70s by 10:00, along the coastline and around the bay, you will notice that fog expanding going into tomorrow morning, and then tomorrow afternoon, not quick warm up at all. as a matter of fact, it's going to be a cooler weather day away from the coast. you're only seeing mostly 80s

with an accident that left a mother and daughter with serious injuries. police say jose chavez was driving his suv when he hit the woman. the women, rather in downtown walnut creek as they were setting up for the farmers market early sunday morning. chavez remains in the contra costa county jail with bail set at $260,000. >> we've been following the story of a major construction project in berkeley today. the california supreme court ruled in favor of uc berkeley's plans to build student housing at people's park. abc7 news reporter anser hassan explains why the fight may now be over. >> the barriers around people's park will soon come down. now that the california supreme court ruled that uc berkeley can build student housing here, i'm unsurprised by it. after a year long legal fight over the berkeley landmark, the court ruled that a new law, ab 1307, which was enacted in 2023, nullifies the claims by those suing uc berkeley. the lawsuit claimed that student noise could be an environmental impact filed.

>> their claims with the court was that there was going to be all of this noise that resulted from the new number of students being added into that area. that is unprecedented. >> a state appeals court ruled last year that the university failed to consider alternate locations, or how to deal with the potential increase in noise, but uc berkeley appealed to the state supreme court and then ab 1307, which passed unanimously in effectively closed the holes in ceqa or the california environmental quality act that were used to sue the university. >> it's also frustrating that they can just change the rules halfway through and then decide that our case no longer has merit. uc berkeley says it's relieved with the decision. >> in a statement to abc seven news, it writes the campus is turning its attention to the timeline for resuming construction now that all legal challenges have been resolved by the california supreme court. professor david fraser adds even with the new law, the court still could have ruled in favor of the university. >> historically, in the state of california, there have been always allowances for

trump's arrival. zach >> yeah, that's right. and we're just now hearing that his plane is taxiing in phoenix, so they should be on their way here very shortly. but earlier this morning, an afternoon his supporters had been gathering in different parts of the bay area, forming those caravans. we went over to redwood city, where one of them was going on. about 50 to 60 people decorated their vehicles with signage, planning to display it all on local roadways as they drove towards marina green. and though it was in san mateo county, visitors also came from places like santa cruz county, san joaquin county and others. the people we spoke with told us that they don't expect to even get a glimpse of the former president, but still felt it important to gather together. >> we're a bunch of fun loving people that want to get together, to enjoy like minded people, and because there's, you know, obviously less of us in the bay area. so, yeah, we just like to hang out with each other so it isn't some like, we have to see donald trump. >> that group that gathered in redwood city was one of several

now on display in the south bay. the moffett field museum is hosting a special exhibit experience. people can step back in time and honor the bravery and sacrifice of those who stormed the beaches of normandy. the museum says. engaging talks and interactive exhibits bring the spirit of the world war two operation to life. >> medic displays. we have a world war two jeep here. we have a number of artifacts that's behind me. we have a first aid station tent as well as a headquarters tent. and then of course, we have a great display on the actual beach landings and the men that participated in it. there's an additional $10 entrance fee to the d-day exhibit that runs through saturday. >> a big development in the state trial of a man who broke into nancy pelosi's house and attacked her husband with a hammer. we've learned the judge has dismissed three of eight charges against david depape for the 2022 attack. they include attempted murder, assault of an elder and assault with a deadly weapon. depape was already tried in federal court for similar charges and convicted to 30

of this russian river inspired ice cream? and we're all going to taste it. now, this is like. >> so i don't know if you've gotten to try this beer before in life, but, like, it is one of the most iconic beers. like, for us beer nerds, this is probably one of the coolest beers that you could ever get your hands on, and it's so rare it takes over a year for him to make one one batch of this beer and so for those of us, especially in northern california, this is a really, really cool opportunity. it's called supplication. he ages this wild yeast strain, you know, a fermented beer on barrels, pinot noir barrels from one of his neighbors that makes wine, and he adds some cherries and some lactobacillus, some some wild cultures and lets that age for just over a year. and you get this really, really funky beer that we actually put into a chocolate fudge. so as you're eating that chocolate fudge, you're just getting this really intensity of kind of that wild strain, a nice, nice tartness from the, the fermentation. and it's, it's one of the coolest ingredients we've ever got to work with at salt

and straw. >> not overwhelming. it's pretty good. >> and i have to say, i am not someone who drinks beer. so how is this going to taste? i like both of them. one even just you can. you can get a hint of the beer taste too much? >> not much. >> yeah, it almost tastes like cookies. cream. oh, good. >> yeah, yeah. >> every once in a while we went like a couple of them are really hoppy because, like, you know, some of us are hopheads, but but, this one in particular with that manchego cheese, like, this is probably one of the most elegant ice creams we've ever been able to make. and i think just the way they play together with the, you know, the cherries that he puts in the beer, we're actually folding back into the ice cream to kind of create this marbling effect, it's really, really romantic. like, i just want to sit by the beach and eat this ice cream. it's good when you when you co-founded salt and straw, what was the philosophy by, you know, a lot of ice cream companies. >> but what made you motivated to try this and what makes it different? what did you go for? >> yeah, i mean, this is well, these ice creams are kind of the

perfect story. this is one of the first sets of ice creams we ever created in 2011 was with breweries. because the idea of making ice cream was all about using ice cream as a platform to talk about the food industry around us and the amazing things that are that people are making, and so i love brewers, you know, there's so much creativity that goes into beer making, and so we've been partnering with, you know, just over 100 breweries in the past 13 years. this just so happens to be probably the most famous brewery we've ever gotten to work with at russian river. i can't stop eating the ice cream. >> i just taste it. we've scarfed this down. devouring, devouring. thursday are these flavors at all of the locations? >> yeah, yeah. so all across the country, there's actually five flavors total, and each one kind of tells a different regional story. so, we've got one from socal, orange county, actually, that is just this amazingly smart brewer, we've got this brewery actually from florida that, they, they, started their brewery. their family started in

1888, in cuba, and the great grandson is now restarting his, you know, in miami. so you know, we want to tell this kind of, breadth of stories through ice cream, and in really unique ways, stories. >> they've got a cookbook, too, dan i know, yeah. >> tell us about the cookbook. >> you can make it at home, yeah, we i mean, it's ice cream making. it's so easy. i love making ice cream. i love teaching people how to make ice cream. this is like my life passion for so many reasons, so, we start with just, you know, a the first recipe you'll see in there is, is a really simple ice cream base. and with that one base, you can make thousands and thousands and thousands of ice cream flavors. and so we'll teach you over the book how to combine and mix and match and use your own creativity. >> it's fantastic. i used to work when i was a kid in an ice cream store, and we made ice cream too, so i've had a passion for ice cream my whole life. more eating it than creating it. >> delicious. no, no, that's the way to go. thanks, tyler. >> all rig
