I wanted to share a story from my journey of teaching an Innovation club this year, inspired by the US National Innovator Challenge. It's a tale of challenges, growth, and unexpected lessons learned along the way.Imagine a classroom where the rules of traditional learning are turned on their head. That's where our story begins. Among my students, there's one who loves rules - the clearer, the better. But, as we all know, innovation doesn't always follow a straight line. Through the framework of the Innovator Challenge, we've been nudging this student to see beyond the black and white, to the shades of gray where creativity thrives. Then, there's the art of feedback - a tricky skill for anyone, let alone young minds. Initial attempts were, well, let's just say 'direct'. Phrases like "that's a stupid idea" were not uncommon. But, as we progressed, something remarkable happened. The students started using the structure of the challenge to reshape their feedback: "I like this about your idea, have you thought about...?" It was a breakthrough moment.Perhaps the most heartening transformation was with our students facing Rejection Sensitivity Dysphoria. Initially, every piece of feedback seemed like a personal attack to them. But over time, as they saw their peers engage constructively as a part of the process, they too began to listen, really listen, and not take it personally. This whole experience has been a revelation. Challenges like the US National Innovator Challenge aren't just about finding creative solutions; it's about building a community of learners who support, challenge, and grow together.I'd love to hear from others who have embarked on similar educational adventures. How have you integrated innovation into your teaching? What transformations have you witnessed? #USNIC #Innovation #Neurodiversity #HewittLearning*ChatGPT was an innovative collaborator on this post.

Summarized considerations from my past weeks’ dialogues making me reflect on how to apply the thoughts of regenerative business in various settings 💡🍀🧠 AI - is perhaps here not about automating, neither connecting widely, but creating a collective intelligence to support the investment in or growth of a certain community 🌍 DEI - a whole new dimension to this term could be how do we include nature as part of our decision making - does nature have a voice at the table?🍄🏢 Design - we tend to apply a human-centric rather than a planetary design when designing for X even though these approaches are very much interlinked. How do we think more of integrated solutions from the outset…🫶 Leadership - we need to create a balance between a masculine and feminine approach to leadership as is the essence of being able to regenerate at allFeel free to add more reflections on topics to the list in the light of regenerative thinking…And this is a shout-out to all the weavers in my network that I have met along the way that are connecting the dots - no matter which approach you take or where you are situated.#Regenerativebusiness#Humanandplanetboundariesandhope#Theartofinterconnectedness#Weaversneeded

Regardless of what noise is out there about AI, People and relationships are still key to success. AI platforms are just tools in harnessing the diverse background and ideas from the people who wield them. It's all about empowering the people... NOT eclipsing them.

In a few weeks I will be facilitating an all day Offsite with a group of Executive Assistants. We’ll be exploring how the role of an EA is changing. How the needs of senior leaders and managers are changing.Artificial Intelligence will play a key role, AND as this article highlights, so will our common humanity, our relationships, our communication, our empathy. They will become even more important.Organisations need to be prioritising training their people equally in technical skills AND emotional intelligence skills.Joshua Freedman Sue McNamara, PhD Maureen Owen - MODT PCC Joni Peddie Boosting Business Performance #leadership #AI #

The call out for building positive work cultures resonates. The pseudo productivity conundrum that organizations grapple with today will potentially be alleviated with AI but what does that leave space for? Perhaps more meaningful work, more time to focus and create something that truly moves the needle. Email and meetings take disproportionate amount of time in our busy lives. And we just get more and more agitated, overwhelmed with expectations for immediate answers and on the spot problem solving. The question we should be pondering on is that how can we, today, build a positive work culture? We have the means.

This is all true, but I keep coming back to the same challenge that's existed for years: how do organizations define, measure, and hold accountable for these skills?Do employees ever get a 200% bonus based upon their communication skill or influence? Do companies even have a way to quantify the "force multiplication" of these kinds of skills on the bottom line?It will be a fascinating evolution in the coming years, but the best companies will be the ones who are more scientific about defining and rewarding in these areas.

This is a really great opinion piece. The passage that really nails it: “Circling around this research is the big question emerging across so many conversations about A.I. and work, namely: What are our core capabilities as humans?“If we answer that question from a place of fear about what’s left for people in the age of A.I., we can end up conceding a diminished view of human capability. Instead, it’s critical for us all to start from a place that imagines what’s possible for humans in the age of A.I. When you do that, you find yourself focusing quickly on people skills that allow us to collaborate and innovate in ways technology can amplify but never replace. And you find yourself — whatever the role or career stage you’re in — with agency to better manage this moment of historic change.”Humanity’s fear of change is not new, and it’s not unique to AI. Choosing possibility over fear isn’t a nicety—it’s the unlock to our own capacity to evolve, so we can learn to thrive in new ways.

🌟 Celebrating the Power of Mentorship! 🌟📧 Today, I received an email that warmed my heart and reminded me of the incredible impact we can have on someone's life through mentorship. 💼I'm excited to be a Challenge Advisor and a Mentor for the Break Through Tech AI Program, helping to build a pipeline of emerging technical talent. The Break Through Tech AI Program helps college women and nonbinary students gain the skills they need to get jobs in the fastest-growing areas of tech: #datascience, #machinelearning, and #artificialintelligence. Particularly for Black, #latina, Indigenous, low-income, first-generation, and other marginalized communities, the barriers to enter AI loom large. We need to change that: Diversity is crucial in AI.We are just getting started in the project and I have no doubt this team will do an outstanding job! They could be your future interns, teammates, and colleagues. Let's work together to create a more inclusive and equitable AI industry. Thanks to Chu H. and the team from the Break Through Tech at #MIT for the opportunity to join this amazing initiative. To all the mentors out there, let's continue to invest our time and energy in uplifting others (the impact we make today will shape the leaders of tomorrow). And to all the mentees, remember that you have the power within you to achieve greatness: Seek guidance, embrace challenges, and never stop learning.#DiversityInTech #WomenInTech #AI #MentorshipJourney #BreakThroughTechAI #MakingADifference
