PlumberGENERAL PURPOSEUnder general supervision, performs a variety of skilled, journey-level duties in the design, installation, maintenance and repair of plumbing and related water systems, fixtures and equipment; and performs related duties as assigned.DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICSPlumber is a full journey-level class responsible for designing, installing, troubleshooting and maintain¬ing a wide variety of plumbing and related systems, fixtures and equipment. Assignments vary, encom¬pass a variety of tasks, seldom require detailed instructions, and require sound judgment and initiative.ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESThe duties listed below are intended only as illustrations of the various types of work that may be performed. The omission of specific statements of duties does not exclude them from the position if the work is similar, related or a logical assignment to this class. There will typically be an assigned schedule for these duties.1. Designs, installs and maintains plumbing and water systems to code; ensures work complies with applicable plumbing codes.2. Installs, maintains, repairs and services structural plumbing equipment including pumps, faucets, drinking fountains, water and sewer lines, certain kitchen appliances and restroom facilities; clears drains and obstructions in water and sewer systems.3. Installs and upgrades fixtures and equipment; repairs and replaces valves; lays out, installs and maintains plumbing systems.4. Installs, inspects, certifies, maintains and repairs backflow prevention devices on irrigation systems.5. Repairs water and gas leaks in service lines; cuts and threads pipes; rebuilds faucets; repairs water supply and pipes.6. Replaces or repairs plumbing fixtures, water heaters, pumps, valves and plumbing control devices; repairs and replaces plumbing controls on kitchen and boiler equipment.7. Works from blueprints, diagrams, sketches and isometric drawings.8. Maintains routine records related to work performed and materials used.9. Operates a variety of tools and equipment including drills, jackhammers, saws, pipe snakes, pipe threading machines, and hand and power tools.OTHER DUTIES1. Maintains a variety of records of completed work, including blueprints, sketches, diagrams and logs.2. Assists other skilled maintenance personnel in cooperative assignments.3. Operates vehicles to travel to various District sites and ensures proper maintenance of District vehicles.QUALIFICATIONSKnowledge of:1. Specialized tools, materials and methods used in plumbing repair and related to maintenance work.2. Applicable building and plumbing codes and ordinances.3.Backflow protection methods, practices and devices.4. Health and safety regulations.5. Technical aspects of the plumbing field.Ability to:1. Perform journey-level plumbing in the maintenance and repair of water systems.2. Diagnose malfunctions and correct plumbing deficiencies.3. Use a variety of tools and machines utilized in the plumbing trade.4. Operate a variety of tools and equipment including drills, jackhammers, saws, pipe snakes, pipe threading machines, and hand and power tools.5. Work cooperatively with others.6. Understand and follow oral and written directions.7. Work from blueprints, shop drawings and sketches.8. Meet schedules and time lines.9. Maintain routine records.10. Learn and apply laws, rules and regulations involved in assigned activities.11. Written Test-passing score 70%.Employment position may be funded through annual budgets that may expire or end after a specific time.Workdays and hours are subject to change.
